How to Book Your CITB Test
Book the CITB test with Pearson VUE, CITB's test provider, online or by phone on 0344 994 4488, or directly with a local Internet Test Centre (ITC). The fee is £23.50.

Phone lines are open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 12pm on Saturday. Have your email address, UK postal address, test type, preferred centre and payment card ready. If you have sat the test before or applied for a site card, you also need your CITB registration number. We are a practice site: we do not take bookings or add fees. To see what to bring on the day, read CITB Test ID Requirements. For every fee, including changes and refunds, see How Much the CITB Test Costs. Booked already? Sit a free CITB Practice Test while you wait.

How do you book the CITB test?
You can book the CITB test in three ways: online with Pearson VUE, by phone on 0344 994 4488, or directly with an Internet Test Centre (ITC).
| Route | How | Pay with | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online | Sign in or register on the Pearson VUE CITB booking system, then pick your test, centre, date and time | Debit or credit card, or a CITB test voucher | Changes you make online later are free, up to 72 hours before the test |
| Phone | Call 0344 994 4488, or the Welsh booking line on 0344 994 4490 | Debit or credit card, or a CITB test voucher | Changes you make by phone later cost a fee |
| Internet Test Centre | Contact the centre directly. CITB lists them on its Find an Internet Test Centre map | Ask the centre | Vouchers only work at Pearson Professional Centres, so you cannot use one at an ITC |

To compare centre types and find one near you, see CITB Test Centres. Book with CITB, not through a third party. Some third-party websites charge more than £23.50, and CITB's booking terms let it refuse a booking it believes comes from a third-party booking agent (terms 2.2). An employer booking for its own staff is not a booking agent. We do not take bookings.
What do you need before you book?
Before you book, have your email address, UK postal address, test type, test centre, payment and any support needs ready.
- A personal email address, so your booking confirmation reaches you.
- Your full UK postal address.
- Your test type: Operatives, Specialist, or Managers and Professionals (MAP). If you are not sure, use the Card Finder tool that CITB links from its booking page. The CITB Health and Safety Test (HS&E) Explained sets out who sits each version.
- Your test centre.
- Your CITB registration number, if you have sat an HS&E test before or applied for a CSCS, CPCS or CISRS card.
- A debit or credit card, or a test voucher.
- Any support needs, such as a voiceover, a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter or help with reading.
Booking for someone else, such as an employee? CITB asks for the candidate's own details: name, address, date of birth, National Insurance number, phone number and email address.
How do group bookings work?
Groups of four or more book through CITB's Navigator Group Booking System; groups of three or fewer book one by one, online or on 0344 994 4488.
To use Navigator, you first ask CITB for a group booking account with the form on its About the HS&E test page. Set-up and reset links last 7 days. Navigator lets you add every candidate, choose where they sit the test, pick a date and time, and pay for all the tests by card. Group bookings have their own terms and conditions, separate from single bookings. For password resets or account changes, email [email protected]. CITB also runs a mobile testing service that brings the test to a group (checked against the CITB About page, 28 October 2026).
How do you reschedule or cancel a booking?
To reschedule or cancel, log in to the Pearson VUE CITB booking system at least 72 hours before your test.
- Sign in with the email address you booked with. If you have forgotten your details, use the "I have forgotten my username" or "I have forgotten my password" links on the sign-in page.
- Open your booking and choose to reschedule or cancel.
- Pick a new date and time, or confirm the cancellation.
- Check the new confirmation that comes by email.
Two rules apply to every change:
- No changes inside 72 hours. You cannot reschedule within 72 hours of your test, and if you cancel inside that window you get no refund (booking terms 12.1 and 13.1).
- A 2-year limit. A rescheduled test must be taken within 2 years of the date you first paid (terms 12.4).
If you paid with a voucher, you cannot get a refund, but you can still reschedule outside the 72 hours. Changes online are free; changes by phone on 0344 994 4488 cost a fee, set out on the cost page linked above.
What happens after you book?
After you book you get a confirmation email or letter; check every detail on it straight away.
- Wrong details? Call the Customer Service Team on 0344 994 4488 at once (booking terms 4.1). Your booking only counts once that written confirmation is issued (terms 2.4).
- Support you asked for, such as a reader, interpreter or signer, shows on the confirmation. If it is missing, call the Adjustments team on 0344 994 4491 straight away (terms 7.3).
- Bring the confirmation email or letter to the test centre, with your ID.
- Arrive 15 minutes before your start time. CITB gives no refund if you arrive late (terms 5.1).
What should you do between booking and test day?
Use the days before your test to practise, check your ID and plan your route.
- Sit timed mocks until you score 45 out of 50 or more. Our mocks have 50 questions, a 45-minute timer and the same pass mark. You can sit 1 free mock every 7 days without an account, or 3 every 7 days with a free account.
- Check your ID against CITB's list on the ID page linked above. Without accepted ID you will not be let in, and the fee is not refunded (terms 6.3).
- Plan your route so you arrive 15 minutes early. Travel light: centres cannot store luggage, work tools or bulky equipment, and your phone, keys and watch go in a locker (terms 11.1).
