CITB Test Revision
CITB's revision materials are the GT100 book for Operatives and Specialist, the GT200 book for Managers and Professionals, revision apps and PC downloads. CITB also offers a free demo test.

Operatives revise GT100 sections A to E. Specialist candidates add the section F chapter for their trade. CITB warns that test questions may be worded differently from the books, though the meaning stays the same, so learn why each answer is right, not the exact words. This page compares each option, says what is free, and shows where mock tests fit. Sitting MAP? See the CITB Managers and Professionals (MAP) Test. For any paper, a free CITB Practice Test shows how much of your revision has stuck. We do not sell CITB's books or apps.
Checked against citb.co.uk, 28 October 2026: the MAP revision app costs £7.29 and the MAP PC download £12.75. CITB can change these prices.

You can buy every version from CITB's online shop, or by phone on 0344 994 4488 (Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 8am to 12pm). CITB says the Operatives and Specialist materials are also sold in high street and online bookshops. Sitting a trade paper? Find your specialism on the CITB Specialist Test page first, so you read the right section F chapter.
Which GT100 sections do you need?
Operatives revise GT100 sections A to E. Specialist candidates revise A to E plus the chapter in section F for their specialism.
CITB says you will be tested on "the most up-to-date edition of the revision materials", so check that your copy is current. You can update a GT100 DVD or download with the web update option in its main menu. Once you have read sections A to E, practise the Operatives test to see which sections need another read.
Is there a CITB revision app?
Yes. CITB has an HS&E test app for Operatives and Specialists, and a separate MAP revision app.
- Operatives and Specialists app. CITB says it "contains everything you need to know to book, prepare for and sit the test including a realistic test simulation". CITB links it on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
- Voiceover in 14 languages. The Operatives app comes in the same 14 voiceover languages as the test (CITB Operatives page).
- MAP app, £7.29. It is on the Apple App Store and Google Play, and also in Welsh. CITB says you can use it "to take mock tests in advance of a scheduled test". If you bought it in the last 12 months, you get updates free.
Prefer a computer? The MAP PC download (£12.75) does the same job and comes from CITB's shop. It also updates free if you bought it in the last 12 months.
Can you revise for the CITB test for free?
Yes. CITB offers a free demo test and a 13-question MAP sample test, and independent sites like this one offer free mock tests.
- CITB demo test. A preview of how the test looks, with a sample of question styles. It is "not a scored test", and CITB says it "should not be used in isolation, but as part of your revision" (CITB Operatives page).
- CITB MAP sample test. 13 questions that show the types of question and subject areas in the MAP test (CITB prepare page).
- Free mock tests on this site. A timed 50-question mock, marked at 45 out of 50 like the real test. These are practice questions, not CITB's test questions.
CITB's books, DVD, downloads and apps are paid. This site does not host copies of them.
Will the real test use the same questions as the revision book?
Not always word for word. CITB says test questions may be worded differently from the revision materials, "however the meaning will remain the same".
CITB says it updates the wording from time to time to use plain English and make questions easier to follow (CITB prepare page, checked 28 October 2026). CITB also says you "will not be tested on questions that are no longer deemed appropriate".
So learning answers by their exact words is a risk. Learn why each answer is right. When you get a question wrong in a mock, read the explanation, then try the same topic again later.
How do mock tests fit into your revision?
Revision materials teach the topics. Timed mock tests check whether you can score 45 out of 50 in 45 minutes.
Take one timed mock before you start revising. Your score shows which areas to read first. Take another when you have finished your book or app. If you keep scoring 45 or more, you are close to ready. For a full revision plan, read How to Pass the CITB Test.
