How Much the CITB Test Costs
The CITB test costs £23.50 when you book with CITB, for every paper: Operatives, Specialist, and Managers and Professionals (CITB, checked 28 October 2026).

You pay when you book, by debit or credit card or with a CITB voucher. The fee is the same whichever version of the CITB Health and Safety Test you sit. Rescheduling online is free up to 72 hours before your test. By phone it costs £5. Cancel online at least 72 hours ahead and you get a full refund. Cancel by phone and CITB keeps a £10 admin fee. Inside 72 hours there is no refund. Some third-party websites charge more than £23.50 for the same test. We are an independent practice site, not CITB, and we never book tests or add a fee. The cheapest test is the one you pass first time, so sit a free CITB Practice Test before you pay.
Checked against citb.co.uk, 28 October 2026: £23.50 for every HS&E test. Reschedule free online or for £5 by phone. Cancel online for a full refund. Every change needs at least 72 hours' notice.
How much does the CITB test cost?
The CITB test costs £23.50, the same for Operatives, Specialist, and Managers and Professionals (CITB, checked 28 October 2026).
CITB's booking terms set the price of each type of HS&E test at £23.50. You pay it in pounds sterling at the time you book (clauses 3.1 and 3.2). The same terms say CITB can change the price at any time without notice. Older pages online still show lower fees, so check the date on any figure you read. The date at the top of this page is the day we last checked.
How do you pay for the CITB test?
You pay by debit or credit card when you book, or with a CITB test voucher.
- Card at booking. CITB accepts debit and credit cards, online or by phone on 0344 994 4488 (CITB booking page, checked 28 October 2026).
- Voucher bought ahead. Vouchers worth the £23.50 fee are sold through CITB's online shop. You can only use them at Pearson Professional Centres (CITB About page).
- No refund on a voucher. If you paid with a voucher, the booking is never refunded. You can only reschedule it (booking terms 13.4).
How to Book Your CITB Test covers each way to book, including through a local Internet Test Centre.

Checked against CITB booking terms 12.1 to 13.4, 28 October 2026. "Online" means Pearson's online booking system.
Refunds go back to your card, or come by cheque, within 15 working days (13.4). A rescheduled test must be taken within 2 years of the date you first paid (12.4). For the steps to change a booking, use the booking guide in the section above.
What other CITB test fees can apply?
Four other charges can apply: a duplicate certificate, a translator on a later test, a missed adjustment, and a lost fee if you are turned away.
- Duplicate pass certificate: £10. You can open your score report in your online account. A duplicate pass certificate ordered by phone on 0344 994 4488 costs £10 (booking terms 10.3).
- Interpreter's fee on later tests. CITB pays for a translator once in your lifetime. On every later HS&E test, including a resit, you pay the interpreter's fee on top of £23.50 (7.4). The terms do not give the amount.
- A missed adjustment. If CITB arranged help such as a reader and you do not sit the test, CITB charges the booker the cost of that help. You cannot sit a test until it is paid (7.3).
- A lost fee. Arrive late, miss the test or turn up without accepted ID and you lose the £23.50 (5.1, 6.3 and 10.2). CITB Test ID Requirements lists every document CITB accepts.
Why do some websites charge more than £23.50?
Some websites book the test for you and add their own fee on top of CITB's £23.50.
CITB's booking terms call these firms Third Party Booking Agents: anyone who books a test to sell it on for profit. An employer booking for its own staff is not an agent (booking terms 1.1). CITB's third party booking agent resale policy says a reseller must show the £23.50 test price, list any extra fees separately before you give your personal details, and say on its website that it is not linked to CITB (checked 28 October 2026).
You can book direct for £23.50, online with Pearson or by phone on 0344 994 4488. We never book tests or add a fee. This site is for practice only.
How much does a resit cost?
A resit costs the full £23.50 again, and you must wait at least 48 hours after a failed test (CITB booking terms 10.2, checked 28 October 2026).
If you used a translator, a resit also carries the interpreter's fee, because CITB covers it only once (7.4). CITB Test Pass Mark and Results explains what happens after a fail and what your score report shows. A free mock costs nothing. Sit one first and see if you reach 45 out of 50.
